Through December 2012 and January 2013 Condor carried out rock anchor and meshing work to stabilise a bank on the M6 which is one of the busiest areas of the UK motorway network.
Instructed by VolkerLaser for AMEY, works were carried out on nights under traffic management on the M6 Nothbound between Jn 15 and Jn 16 by Keele Service Station. Working in extremely difficult weather conditions punctuated with snow, rain and fog, a 120m stretch averaging 14m high required stabilising. With use of MEWP access that allowed only a single lane of the motorway to remain open, the area was descaled prior to drilling rock bolts into the rock surface. Protective mesh was then placed to prevent further fall rockfall. The works were carried out entirely with the use of a cherrypicker and despite difficult conditions and logistics was carried out to the client’s satisfaction.
