Morrone is a mast tower located just south of Braemar perched atop one of the highest mountains in the Cairngorms, it is used by telecommunication companies and the Police therefore it is of great importance to the area.

This project was one of the most challenging masts to tackle due to its extreme remote location and the nature of the works required by the client. The mast is open to some of the most extreme weather conditions due to its elevated position regularly being subjected to high winds and heavy rains. The mast had to be anchored to the rock and needed a specific steel framework erected around the legs to allow separate contractors to use our anchors as a base for future works.

Condor excels in these works as we get to use not only our site knowledge but also our years of engineering expertise to fabricate the steel framework required. The plates designed by our in-house team combined the need for there to be eight anchors around each leg to provide stability to the tower as well as a top plate to sit around the mast leg as a base for future tower building.

The team had to excavate 1.3m around the tower legs to reach the concrete base which meant that to avoid possible injury it was determined that our bespoke drilling rig was to be used to drill the anchor holes ensuring no operative had to be in the pit when drilling. Once the holes were drilled the DCP anchors were installed using a resin and the specialised base plates affixed and assembled around the legs.

The made up ground was then placed carefully back over our anchors, this project while challenging allowed Condor to showcase our expertise.
