A small crib wall measuring 11m by 2m was in a state of disrepair. Asked to make structurally sound and improve the look by installing a Reno mattress over the front face (150mm deep gabion basket). This is formed using Scottish cobbles with a size of 80-150mm.

Upon arrival at site, the crib wall was hidden behind overgrown vegetation, so clearance was undertaken to reveal the full extent of the crib wall, a total number of 28 anchors were then installed using our bespoke mechanical anchors, in two rows over the face evenly spaced. A French drain was dug and installed below the location of the gabion mattress to improve drainage.

Backing mesh is then installed along with erosion matting and Teram with the anchors then plated and pulled to a loading ranging between 2 and 3 ton per anchor and locked off to give a total pull strength on the anchors of 56 tons across the face of the crib. Locking in the material and preventing any more loss or slippage.

The Reno (gabion) basket is then constructed using 150mm spacers vertically across the face at 600mm intervals to give the required depth and using a gabion clip gun to attach to the structural mesh, and a facing galvanised 50×50mm square mesh is clipped to the spacers on the front forming the empty baskets to be filled.

The gabion stones which are Scottish cobbles at 80-120mm in size are then carefully placed into the baskets forming an attractive matrix stone wall that has a very pleasing final look. The baskets are then clipped shut to finish the wall. The stone is then washed clean and sprayed with a wet look resin that brings out all the vibrant colours from the stone.

We were also tasked with replacing the unsafe and damaged safety railings at the top of the crib and installed a custom made railing meeting all specifications given to ourselves and built by our in house fabricators.

The grounds have been made good and extra plants and turf laid as requested to complete the job.
