A two day project to stabilise this important bridge was undertaken by Condor Projects on behalf of Durham County Council using a specialist rig to reinforce the bridge with soil nails.

Initially the area to be strengthened was bored out using diamond drilling taking great care to preserve the cores so they could be reinstated at the conclusion of the works and maintain the bridges traditional look.

An 8 tonne excavator was then used above the bridge to guide a drifter rig with rock drill attached to insert the soil nails. Each nail was entered to a depth of 7 metres with the final metre being embedded with a high yield anchor mortar to strengthen the support. The video shows the access issues that were easily overcome with our specialised rig and the works were concluded well within the time specifications and with minimal disruption to the local community.
